Coop electrifies logistics in Sweden’s Uppland region
The Uppland region covers nearly 13,000 square kilometres and is located north of Stockholm on the Baltic Sea. Coop operates 23 stores in this region and must cover approximately 659,000 transport kilometres annually to supply them. By the first half of 2026, this logistics operation will be fully transitioned to electric vehicles. The partners expect this shift to deliver an annual CO₂ saving of 912 tonnes.
The partners have not specified which electric models will be used in the future.
“At Coop, we believe that every delivery can make a difference for our customers and the local community,” said Peter Rosendahl, head of Transport at Coop Sweden. “By partnering with Einride, we are taking a major step towards reducing our carbon footprint and proving that climate-smart logistics can go hand in hand with reliable grocery deliveries.”
“This milestone with Coop underscores the power of Einride’s freight mobility platform,” added Roozbeh Charli, Chief Executive Officer of Einride. “Transitioning an entire region to electric deliveries demonstrates our ability to deploy integrated hardware, software, and infrastructure in a way that improves fleet productivity.”
Einride was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Stockholm. The Swedish company initially focused on developing driverless commercial vehicles and even created a concept vehicle called the T-Pod. In recent years, however, the company’s core product has shifted to the Saga AI software platform, which acts as an intelligent operating system for electric—and future autonomous—vehicle fleets, as well as charging and connectivity networks. This platform is designed to enable companies to transport goods in a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective way.
Einride previously marketed its intelligent ecosystem under the name ‘Saga,’ but changed it to ‘Saga AI,’ as it now includes ‘AI powered planning and optimisation.’ According to Einride, this enables shippers to ‘meet transport demand with fewer vehicles, lower energy consumption, and reduced overall transport costs.’
According to its own statements, the Swedish technology specialist now serves around 30 corporate customers across seven countries. In Europe, the company collaborates with firms such as Rewe, Kaufland, Carlsberg, and Heineken, deploying electric trucks from manufacturers like Daimler Truck and Scania. Einride is also active in the USA and the United Arab Emirates, for example, at the Port of Jebel Ali in Dubai.
Recently, the company also published details about its planned SPAC listing in the USA. Einride is executing this through a merger with the already listed shell company Legato Merger Corp. III. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
