Valeo launches production of E-Axle for Mahindra in India
As early as the end of 2023, Valeo secured a nearly one-billion-US-dollar order from Mahindra to supply electric drivetrains for its electric SUVs. The corresponding production line at the Pune plant has now been completed and inaugurated. The facility will manufacture a 3-in-1 e-axle for Mahindra, integrating the electric motor, inverter, and transmission into a compact unit.
Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo Power, commented on the inauguration of the production line: “India is a key region in Valeo’s ‘Elevate 2028’ strategic plan. Our investments in Pune supports our commitment to deeper localization of advanced technologies in India. By localizing the production of our highly integrated 3-in-1 e-Axle systems, we are strengthening our ability to deliver advanced technologies to our customers and contributing to India’s transition towards safer, and more sustainable mobility.”
Jayakumar G, President of Valeo India, added: “The inauguration of this line marks an important milestone in Valeo’s journey in India. Our new e-Axle manufacturing line in Pune is a key step in our growth strategy. It reflects our commitment to bringing advanced technology solutions closer to our customers. We are proud to develop and manufacture this e-Axle for Mahindra’s Born Electric Vehicles and to contribute to the growth of India’s EV ecosystem.”
Under its Born Electric strategy, Mahindra has introduced a range of all-electric SUVs based on the new INGLO platform. These are primarily divided into two series: the BE series, featuring a futuristic design, and the XEV series, formerly known as XUV.e, which offers a more luxurious experience and is partly inspired by existing models.
The first models of the Born Electric range, the BE 6e and the XEV 9e, were unveiled as early as the end of 2024. By the end of 2025, the XEV 9S followed as the first three-row battery-electric SUV to be built directly in India.
