Harley subsidiary LiveWire launches production of S4 Honcho
The S4 Honcho platform, featuring the S4 Honcho Trail and S4 Honcho Street models, made its European debut at the EICMA in Milan in November during its unveiling. “S4 Honcho is about opening up electric riding to a much broader audience,” said Karim Donnez, CEO of LiveWire. “It’s lightweight, approachable, and built to be used—whether you’re new to riding or just looking for something more fun and flexible day to day.”
Both models are lightweight and affordable electric motorcycles in the minibike category, comparable to a 125 cubic centimetre internal combustion engine bike. As the S4 Honcho Street can be ridden in Europe and the UK with an A1 licence, and the S4 Honcho Trail does not require a licence for use in enclosed off-road areas, LiveWire can significantly expand its target audience. Previous models, such as the S2 Mulholland, are considerably larger, heavier machines with price tags around €20,000.
The new S4 Honcho range, however, offers a more accessible option: the street variant, S4 Honcho Street, starts at €5,699, while the off-road variant, S4 Honcho Trail, begins at €5,299. Weighing around 120 kilogrammes including batteries, both variants offer agile handling, according to the manufacturer. The top speed is 95 km/h, and acceleration from 0 to 48 km/h (30 mph) takes approximately 3 seconds.
Both versions feature two removable and swappable batteries with a total capacity of 3.48 kWh, providing a range of up to 86 kilometres under WMTC testing and 118 kilometres at a constant speed of 30 km/h. When plugged into a standard 230-volt household socket, the batteries can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in about two hours. Charging can be carried out either while the batteries are installed or after removal.
Production of both S4 Honcho variants has now commenced. However, the electric fun bikes are not manufactured by LiveWire itself but by Kymco. The Taiwanese scooter manufacturer invested in LiveWire in 2021. Both companies also plan to launch a jointly developed electric maxi-scooter this year.
