GM issues US recall of 15,000 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs
According to an NHTSA recall filing, GM is recalling a number of 2026-27 Cadillac Vistiq models because “a person, especially a child, may be trapped by a rear powered seatback, increasing their risk of injury”. The filing adds that “when the power fold feature is activated, the third-row power seatback may fail to reverse when encountering a person”. 13,629 Vistiqs from the 2026 model year are affected, as well as 911 from the 2027 model year. All vehicles are estimated to have the defect.
A document attached to the filing provides further details: “On March 31, 2026, a GM engineer submitted a report through GM’s Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) program after reviewing an evaluation of the third-row power seatback folding function on a 2026 Cadillac VISTIQ.”
The document added: “During the evaluation, the seatback continued its power-folding operation with a 33- to 40-pound box on the seat and stopped in a position that prevented the box from being removed without manually reversing the seat back. In addition to the SUFS subject vehicle, GM is aware of 6 other incidents or complaints potentially associated with this condition. None resulted in injury.”
Once notified of the issue (which GM says will be from the 3 August), affected Vistiq owners are instructed to return their vehicles to dealers, who will disable the third-row folding feature until parts become available and the seat module can be replaced. Once this has happened, the affected seats should return to an upright position if they encounter loads strong enough to prevent the folding procedure.
