Taking a gas-guzzling SUV off-road is certainly closest to its intended purpose. But taking it off the road and into a canal like in this video, its quite a different story. It is not known how this could happen, but luckily nobody was injured. And this way, another SUV has been taken off our city roads.
Nozzi, the new star of this Tesla video, is a gasoline nozzle that no one seems to need anymore. That makes Nozzi so sad that he gets drunk at a bar! In the end, it still finds its purpose in life. What that is? See for yourself.
Living with lag.

Instead of a three-second delay, we at electrive.com will take a four day break as we stay true to our roots in Germany, where Labour Day is traditionally celebrated on the 1st of May, the same as in the U.S. We will be back on Monday, 5th May, regardless of the UK bank holiday. Whenever your May holiday starts or ends, we wish you a truly joyful one!
Watch your mouth.
Researchers from the Swiss Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) together with PSA Peugeot Citroen have developed an on-board emotion detector. It is designed to distinguish only two emotions of a driver: anger and disgust as these could indicate road rage. So next time, give your best smile to the camera – while pushing the pedal or pressing the horn.
On second thought.
GoCycle dealer Ben Jaconelli was devastated when his stylish electric folder got stolen in London. However, he received a call at his e-bike store only a few days later by someone asking how to actually charge the GoCycle. But instead of delivering a new charger, Jaconelli paid the thief’s house a visit, where he only met the mother. An hour later, the GoCycle was sent back in a cab.
It cannot be, fans thought when Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak posted a picture of him and his Tesla Model X on twitter. And while many were still bickering about Elon Musk probably getting the iPhone 6 before anyone else, the secret was finally lifted – the car in the picture is just a display and belongs to no one (yet).
Elio Motors has come up with a rather unusual comparison to measure the low environmental impact of its three-wheeler. According to the company, its trike could drive 20,000 miles and would still emit less carbon dioxide than a cow burping and farting for a whole year.
Nissan CEO Andy Palmer expressed his company’s interest in working with Mahindra on charging infrastructure for India. His openness to cooperation was echoed by Dr.Pawan Goenka of Mahindra who would be “more than happy” to work with the Japanese. Both these niceties, however, were exchanged only via the media. So why not sit down and talk to each other soon?!
Snitch a hike.
A thief, who snatched a girl’s handbag on a street in China, must have thought it was his lucky day when a passing scooter driver offered him a ride to escape. The robber soon regretted this hitchhike, however, as his alleged accomplice dropped him off in front of a police station.

Loudly led astray.
Speeding drivers in Missouri, USA will soon not be captured on speed camera but be shot at with unpleasant sounds from a sound cannon. These ‘acoustical weapons,’ however, are designed to disturb and disorient people – not exactly what you want on a highway!

We hope you stay safe and wish you a jolly Good Friday and happy Easter before we come back with more electrifying news next Tuesday, April 22nd!

A highway patrol cop recently pulled over a Tesla Model S for speeding. The all star cast of Elon Musk himself, Rebecca Hall and Johnny Depp with Paul Bettany on his lap would normally let anyone forget about the fine and hop in instead. The officer however, resisted the glamour and insisted on the law. In this case, not even a HOV sticker is helping.

Apparently, Henry Ford’s Model T was actually not for everyone. Ford’s wife Clara was not impressed with what her husband got on offer and kept driving her 1914 Detroit Electric. While it is not known what Henry had to say to that, we now know for a fact that his lady had some class!
Fast charging farce.
The Scottish Highlands Council has just spent 82,000 pounds (137,500 dollars) on four charging stations. While the intentions were certainly good – who would want to be stranded in an EV in hilly and chilly Highlands – the outcome is less than ideal as the four stations are only capable of delivering 7 kW AC. The Council now promised to stock up on rapid chargers soon, aye!
See-through Land Rover.
In New York, Land Rover will present its Discovery Vision Concept that enables the driver to look what lies directly ahead or better underneath. Cameras at the front of the car feed a Head-up display and thus create the illusion of a transparent bonnet. Anticipatory driving has just reached a new level!

Put a spider in your tank.
Mazda is recalling its Mazda 6 in the USA as the car proves too popular with yellow sac spiders. Attracted by the smell of petrol, the crawling plague weaves webs inside the tank increasing the risk of fire. A Mazda spokesman could not shed light on why the spiders chose Mazda but summarised the situation honestly when admitting to be “terrified.”
Wherever you go.
The Terra Wind is the dream of campers as it works on land and water. The amphibious motorcoach has a top speed of 80 mph on the highway and 7 knots in the water. While his interior looks like the cockpit of an airplane it has not yet learned how to fly.
Fully Charged’s Robert Llewellyn got behind the wheel of a Tesla Model S and was not prepared for the acceleration. In between cheers of joy and the invocation of god, the comedian could not help himself but finding it -BEEP- phenomenal!

The ToyoHog used to be a Toyota Prius but has been ripped off his heart. In place of the hybrid drivetrain, a Harley Davidson’s V-twin has been put in. While it is far from pretty or functional, this monster may find some fans in the EU parliament as certainly this hybrid cannot be overheard!

It is official, again.
Honda’s Mean Mower is the fiercest and fastest lawn mower in the world. And who would be better suited to prove it than the British boys from Top Gear who asked Guinness to come along and record their world record. Piers Ward broke his own record with an average speed of 187.60 kph (116.57 mph) and even fulfilled Guiness criteria to cut some grass too.

At the Boston Medical Center (BMC), doctors can now prescribe low-income patients a bike-share membership at reduced costs. Five instead of 85 dollars should be incentive enough to actually use the Boston bike sharing Hubway, especially as the obligatory helmet is included for free. Health and safety first!
Chicago-based Mercier-Jones designed a hovercraft in its 21st century version, the Supercraft. A limited edition is due to be released in May, with ten carbon fibre street-ships being made available to collectors for 75,000 dollars. The Supercraft is said to roam the lands with 80 mph and plough the sea with 40 mph. Just waiting for the Bat-Signal!
…no matter what your goals are. This could be one of the interpretations for Cadillac’s controversial ‘Poolside’ commercial featuring the plug-in ELR (we reported). In it’s latest clip on the C-Max Energi, Ford is now giving us their view on it. Please draw your own conclusions. All we know: No matter how hard you work, you will only have to do half the work for the Ford.

Some Russian government employees might have been reminded of times not so long ago, when Industry Minister Denis Manturov handed in a draft to limit the procurement of imported cars by state institutions. His proposal is meant to support the domestic car industry and the state’s pocket in the face of a falling rouble. So from now on it is bye-bye Benz and ‘Privét’ Lada!
Putting a car on top of the roof of a skyscraper does not make too much sense. In this case the car does not make much sense either. But Ford wants to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Mustang with style and will re-create its original debut during the New York Auto Show. Exactly as back in 1956, the car will be cut in three pieces and taken up using the elevators. Electrically-powered at least.
Normally international affairs require careful handling and a lot of time, before they can be resolved. Foreign leaders currently in contact with former U.S. president Jimmy Carter have to be very patient though. Carter is lately relying on snail mail to avoid being monitored by the National Security Agency. Sorry Jimmy, the NSA knows now – better allow for some extra time for your mail.
Powered by hops.
Festo’s Bionic Kangoroo combines an electric with a pneumatic drive. Just like the real thing, it can “recover” part of the energy produced by hopping about, which (also like the real thing) happens via its hamstring. That in this case is made out of rubber. But that’s only a minor detail.

This pickup truck comes flying out of nowhere – literally. Luckily for these Iowa cops, the 4×4 did not clip them as it approached the ditch, where it landed safely and drove off into the night. Have a save weekend!
The no-charging etiquette.
What to do when you end up at a broken charging station? Transport Evolved lists tips and tricks, starting with calling the operator all the way to getting towed. Very important here – to avoid comments from neighbours, have the tow truck drop you and your car off around the corner! The last bit of juice should get you to your front door.
