Audi wants to intensify the development of fuel cell cars, despite the mother group’s focus on battery electric mobility. Audi boss Bram Schot said: “We really want to accelerate it. We will give more priority to hydrogen fuel cells – more money, more capacity and more confidence.”

Audi and Ballard Power Systems have announced their decision to extend their fuel cell cooperation, that is the existing Hymotion programme, for another 3.5 years until August 2022. The extension is valued between 62 and 100 million dollars.

Audi is planning to to take the lead for VW’s hydrogen cars and wants to launch a production fuel cell model by 2020, albeit in a small series. Rupert Stadler announced the news at the annual press conference and also said to go serial with their latest autonomous concept.
