EV incentives in Luxembourg? The small Grand Duchy is looking into the feasibility of encouraging the uptake of zero-emission vehicles as part of fiscal reform. 800 EV charging stations will reportedly be erected by the end of the decade and complimentary incentive schemes like those in Norway and France are being considered, says Sustainable Development Minister François Bausch.

Workplace charging works: Electric cars with access to a charger during office hours are driven more than those without, the Idaho National Laboratory shows. This is particularly true for the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt, which travel up to 25 percent more than average if plugged-in at the office.

Electrified bus fleet: King County, Washington, released the first of three electric buses into service in Bellevue. The Proterra prototype sits 38 and can be charged wirelessly, and is just one step in the direction of electrifying of the entire fleet. By 2020, all buses in the county shall be hybrid or electric.

Luxembourg gears up: The city-state wants to install 800 electric vehicle charging stations by the end of 2020. The first 300 will be erected by July 2017, another 560 two years later.

POD Point charges ahead: The British provider of charging infrastructure has started two crowdfunding schemes in order to raise 1.75m pounds. The first 1.5m are to come from the “Electric Equity” programme, where people can purchase shares. The remain 250,000 GBP from the “Open Charge Bond” campaign will be used to increase POD Point’s open charging bays.

Hydrogen for the capitol: A total of five H2 buses have gone into service in Washington, DC; another 21 are said to follow in the coming year. The first batch services some of the busiest routes that see about 200,000 people on a workday. Each bus comes with a price tag of 970,000 dollars.

BlueIndy is a success: The electric carsharing scheme in Indianapolis only kicked off in September. The programme already counts more than 500 members, who completed a total of 3,000 trips with the Bolloré cars. BlueIndy workers continue to come to new carsharing stations to explain the vehicles and sign up new drivers.

A total of 74 public charging stations with 187 charging points are currently installed in Luxembourg. The small European country previously announced that it plans to build up a whopping 850 charging stations by the end of the decade (we reported).

Expo EVs from BMW: BMW Italia has handed over four i3 cars and six C evolution scooters to the Italian State Police. The electric vehicles will be on patrol in Milan for the Expo 2015. Included in the loan during the show are two charging stations.

Rebates remain: Pennsylvania will continue its Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate Programme. Large-battery vehicles with battery system capacities equal or greater than 10 kWh are eligible for the highest rebate amount of 2,000 dollars. Hybrids with battery capacities less than 10 kWh can get up to 1,000 dollars. Rebates are capped at 250 or will be discussed again at the end of the year.

Swiss charging standards: EVite, an initiative that strives to make fast charging non-discriminatory throughout Switzerland, has published standards for fee-based fast charging stations. At every EVite station, payment via credit card must be possible, while prices shall be visible at every location.

Helsinki takes car sharing a step further and might make car ownership redundant by 2025. Its new concept for “Mobility on Demand” is taking into account all forms of transport and integrates them in a single payment system. However, this is very much future talk while their ‘Kutsuplus’ minibus can already be ordered via smartphone and personally scheduled.

Luxembourg plans carsharing: The scheme is set to start in the capital by 2015 and will receive 1.5 million euros by the City of Luxembourg in the first ten years of its existence. For the start, only 15 (“low emission,” not fully electric) cars will be deployed by the newly founded Carsharing SA, which the city owns by 97% while partners Cambio and ACL get a 1% share each.

Renault goes Uruguay: The French company has just delivered 30 Kangoo Z.E. to the state-owned utility provider UTE. They will be used in the capital Montevideo and elsewhere in the country, which already gets 84% of its energy from renewable sources.

Rungis to be electrified: SEMMARIS, that manages Rungis International Market in Paris, added seven Renault Zoes to its fleet. The partnership with the French carmaker is aimed at the 1,200 market sellers and their 25,000 customers. E Valuation is the telling name of a new tool for fleet managers thinking about introducing EVs into their car pool. For this second, simplified version Alphabet teamed up with route planning specialist Route Monkey. The new E Valuation is designed to analyse smaller parts of a fleet and points out where EVs could replace existing vehicles cost-effectively.

Luxembourg to be loaded: A new government initiative calls for 40,000 electric cars in the grand duchy by 2020 and is thus investing in charging infrastructure. 750 to 800 charging stations will be erected by Creos. At the stations, customers will be able to choose which utility provider they’d like to charge their EV with.

Electric carsharing in Switzerland: Migros subsidy m-way started ‘eMOTION Zürich.’ The 16 project participants will share their electric vehicles when not in use online via the sharoo platform. Ten Renault Zoe, two Renault Kangoo Z.E., four Smart ED and one VW e-Up will be available for the next twelve months.
