Rimac secures investment.

Substantial 10 million euros (12.5m dollars) have been secured by Rimac Automobili in its Series A investment round from three main investors. The Croatian supercar maker is now ready to increase production capability for its Concept_One sports EV as well as developing more models.

Technology transfer can come in many forms and this one is especially beneficial. Croatian Rimac has adapted the battery from its Concept_One supercar to be used in wheelchairs. With the new technology, the range went up from 10 km to 60 km, the battery weighs ten kilos less and lives 10x longer, thus enabling the user to roll for longer, lighter and better.

McLaren electrifies: The CEO of the British sports car manufacturer, Mike Flewitt, announced that within ten years’ time, “all models will be hybrids,” and that he even plays with the thought of offering an all-electric model. Meanwhile, rumour has it that McLaren will present the P13 in Geneva 2015, an entry level sports car for about 210,000 dollars.

BMW all-electric in China: President of BMW China, Karsten Engel, says the i3 will go on sale in September. It will join the Zinoro E1, an all-electric car built by BMW’s Chinese joint venture Brilliance, which can only be rented at the moment. When asked about his plans for China, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer only said that the carmaker is talking about broadening the Zinoro offer.

Rimac to become reality: The Croatian electric super sports car Concept One is getting closer to small scale production, as Colombian investor Frank Kanayet Yepes will be joined by three more investors from Asia. The combined investment comes to about 13 million euros (17.7m dollars)

BMW talks future: Only after presenting the i8 to the press, the Bavarian carmaker is already thinking about new models in the i-series like a stretched i3 or a van or even an i3 coupé. The BMW i8 might be turned into a roadster already this summer too.

B-class ED pricing: With 41,450 dollars, the new electric Mercedes B-class will cost almost exactly the same as the BMW i3 when it comes to selected dealerships in some US states this summer. Nationwide availability is announced for early 2015.

More money for Croatian super car: Rimac, known for its Concept One electric sports car is about to receive another eight million euros (11m dollars) funding from two investors. For the future, the electric car and drivetrain manufacturer is looking at building less expensive cars while it aims at selling a couple of hundred units of its G-12 electric motorcycle already this year.

The ‘real’ experience: BMW i has just started a new online campaign to promote electric driving. As part of it, the company asked 107 people to test drive the i3 while filming their experiences.

Phoenix rising from the ashes? It looks like the company from California has survived its 2009 bankruptcy and is back to further develop its electric shuttle bus with 14 seats. If this e-bus will still sit on the same platform as the original concept which was based on a Ford is not yet known.

BMW-X5-eDriveBMW X5 eDrive by 2015: The German carmaker released details of its first plug-in hybrid which will incorporate elements from the i-series. The eDrive adds 70 kW which enables the X5 to drive electrically at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour. In French Miramas, journalists could take the BMW for a spin. Its debut is scheduled for November in Los Angeles.

Audi plans electric attack: The German carmaker is aiming to go head-to-head with Tesla with the launch of the all-electric Q8 in 2017. Internally known as Tesla-fighter, the Audi Q8 e-tron’s super batteries are said to give it a range of up to 700 km (about 430 mi). Furthermore, Audi plans to introduce PHEV versions of the A4, A6, A7, A8 as well as Q5, Q6, Q7 with a range of 65 km (40 mi) by 2016.

BYD dynasties: The Chinese car maker has now secured rights for another twelve names of Chinese emperors. Following the Qin, the Tang is scheduled for next year. If all the remaining eleven dynasties will inspire new hybrid cars is yet open to speculation.

Super Segway: The Ryno one-wheeled electric motorbike looks as if it is straight from the future. It operates like a segway with the rider leaning forward to speed up and vice versa. While the Ryno is street-legal, it only goes as fast as 10 mph with a range of ten miles. We still think it looks like great fun!
