Porsche boss Oliver Blume recently confirmed in an interview that the Porsche 911 will “never” be driven purely electrically ex works. Since the German manufacturer refused to do so, another company has taken it upon themselves to electrify the classic 1965 Porsche 911.

Tech details on the new Volt drivetrain: According to GM, the new drive unit will be 45 kilos lighter and up to 12 percent more efficient than the one used for the current model. The battery pack contains 192 cells instead of 288, making the unit 13.6 kilos lighter, but offering more capacity than its predecessor.
Bug with plug: Zelectric Motors from San Diego presented another electrified version of the VW classic, called the ’66 ZelectricBug. As the name suggests, this model was originally build in 1966. The electrified version has a top speed of 100 miles, a range of 80 miles, and a price tag of 45,000 dollars.

H2 competition: U.S. Department of Energy and Hydrogen Education Foundation announced the one million dollar “H2 Refuel H-Prize”. The two-year competition challenges America’s engineers and entrepreneurs to develop affordable systems for small-scale hydrogen fueling.
Delivery by truck and drone: AMP Electric Vehicles developed the electric delivery truck “Workhorse” based on vehicles used by FedEx and UPS. In combination with its drone “HorseFly,” AMP wants to offer a complete delivery system. Some delivery companies have supposedly already shown interest.
BMS from Korea: Hyundai Mobis has developed a new battery management system supposed to increase the efficiency of electric vehicles, since every cell is connected to a sensor. Serial production, however, will only be possible in two years’ time.
