China EV strategy: At the recent Bejing motor show, the FAW group announced its ambitious plans to acquire a 15 percent share of the country’s EV market by 2020. Starting with four models this year, FAW hopes to have six new energy vehicle platforms and 16 mass-market vehicles on offer in six years’ time.

Tesla genes: It is no news that the Mercedes B-class Electric Drive has Tesla technology inside. A recent review undermines that fact, highlighting features such as improved clearance of about five centimetres for battery protection, an understated acceleration figure of 7.9 seconds from 0 to 100 kph and a Range Plus charge-mode that will put an extra 25 percent of energy into the battery. Model S drivers, does that sound familiar?
Future for a month: In 2015, about 20,000 residents of the Helmholtz neighbourhood in Berlin, will be living car-free for one month. For the duration of the Eco-Mobility Festival, 3,500 conventional cars will have to make room for pedestrians, bikes, public transport, EVs and shared cars. Whether the locals like it or not. The project follows the example of the EcoMobility World Festival 2013 that successfully took place in Suwon, South Korea.
