Presenting the new Passat: VW showed the 2015-model in Berlin last Friday. The new generation weighs up to 85 kilograms less and has an overall ‘edgier’ design. For the first time, the Passat will also be available in a plug-in hybrid version, with an electric range of up to 50 kilometres. Sales kick off in Europe this week, with prices starting at 25,875 euros (35,180 dollars) for the sedan and 25,950 euros (35,250 dollars) for the estate.

BMW 7 Series hybrid comes to India: The vehicle will be available there come July 23rd. It combines a petrol and a 15-kW electric motor and is said to use 15% less fuel than similar cars with petrol engines only. The 2014 edition of the luxury sedan will face little competition on the Indian market, since there are few hybrids currently available.

New electric scooter by Govecs: The GO!S1.3 has a range of up to 50 kilometres and can be charged up to 80% in just one hour. The Munich-based company swapped its lead batteries for Li-ion ones, saying it will do so for all its scooters. The GO!S1.3 will be available starting at 3,995 euros (5,431 dollars).

Test driving the HybridAir: This prototype of a Peugeot hybrid car has no battery. Instead, it features compressed air technology, which the carmaker developed together with Bosch. The goal is to cut extra costs associated with hybrid vehicles. Unfortunately, test drivers were not impressed, saying the car drove ‘sluggish.’ Still, they support the idea and hope that PSA will perfect the technology soon.

Thief crashes stolen Tesla: Trying to get away from police, a thief raced the Model S through the roads of Hollywood at around 160 kph before crashing into a fully occupied vehicle and a light pole. The collision literally ripped the Tesla in half, with the front catching fire. No one was killed, but all those involved were taken to hospital for treatment.
