VW presents I.D. R Pikes Peak this weekend
Coming Sunday, VW will be presenting the I.D. R Pikes Peak to the public, before the testing program begins a day later for the electric sports car. This was announced by VW, who also included a new image of the electric super car.
On the 24th of June, the company is planning to steal the record for an electric vehicle at the US mountain race at Pikes Peak in Colorado. The first teaser for the vehicle appeared in March, which prompted some speculation surrounding the concept racer.
The premiere of the racer will take place on Sunday, the 22 of April, and can be watched via a livestream. The presentation itself will take place in the French Alés.
“We want to be at the forefront of electro-mobility with Volkswagen and the I.D. family…Competing in the most famous hillclimb in the world with the I.D. R Pikes Peak is a valuable test for the general development of electric cars”, said Dr. Frank Welsch at the announcement last October. The vehicle is being developed by Volkswagen Motorsport in close cooperation with the technical unit in Wolfsburg. Motorsport director Sven Smeets also said that this race car presents a new beginning for the division, as this was the first time they were developing a purely electric race car.
