Geely-backed Terrafugia accepting orders for flying car

Terrafugia is taking pre-orders for their hybrid plane that mixes two worlds in every sense. The Transition is said to switch from road to air operation in less than a minute and moves from partially electric driving to conventional flying.

Production is set for next year but Terrafugia has started to take pre-orders for their flying car. Still they have not specified a price but the Transition will sell only in the U.S. to start with.

The company from Massachusetts has been working on their vehicle with foldable wings since 2006 when MIT graduates founded the firm. Their mightiest backer is Geely of China and so Terrafugia is confident that their plane / car will see the light of the day next year as reported. While it flies using a conventional engine, ground operations are backed up by a hybrid drive.

Terrafugia is also working on a VTOL (vertical-take-off-and-landing) and says a concept will launch this month. Market entry is set for 2025.
