Kreisel Electric developing batteries with VinFast
The Austrian e-mobility specialist Kreisel Electric announced a cooperation for battery development with the Vietnamese vehicle manufacturer VinFast. The partners will jointly develop a battery pack, which VinFast will launch in its electric cars and electric buses in 2020.
Kreisel did not mention what kind of batteries it will be. Only this much: Criteria such as high quality, low weight, high safety and service life of the battery were essential for Kreisel’s decision.
“We believe that Kreisel Electric provides trend-setting solutions for VinFast’s electric cars and will contribute in convincing consumers with quality and safety,” said Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice President of Vingroup and President of VinFast.
VinFast is still a very young company. In 2018, the development service provider EDAG was commissioned to develop two conventionally powered models and a battery electric model. However, VinFast also founded a joint venture with LG Chem this spring. Both companies had already signed a letter of intent in September 2018 to cooperate on electric vehicle batteries.
It is therefore likely that VinFast and Kreisel will develop the battery packs from the battery cells of the LG Chem joint venture. However, this is not exactly confirmed in the announcement.
