Stellantis can choose from three EV platforms

The planned merger of the car companies PSA and FCA under the name Stellantis will apparently be able to rely on three electric car platforms. In addition to the existing platforms eCMP and eVMP, according to a new report from Italy, a base developed by FCA will also trade for larger electric cars.

As the Italian news site clubalfa.it writes, the platform called Giorgio, developed for the Alfa Romeo models Giulia and Stelvio is currently being adapted by Maserati for fully electric cars with 800-volt architecture and up to three electric motors. The Giorgio electric platform will be used by the DS, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler brands in their larger models.

In addition, it is very likely that this platform will also be used by the manufacturers Faraday Future and Seres (SF Motors), with whom FCA began negotiating the purchase of technology for their future electric cars last year.

According to an August report, FCA is said to have already informed employees and suppliers that it will discontinue developments in the B segment because FCA intends to use PSA’s CMP or e-CMP for its smaller vehicles after the merger. The first FCA models to be produced on the PSA platform will be the successors to the Fiat Punto and Fiat 500XL. Alfa Romeo will use the platform for a B-SUV below the tonal range, which, like the 500XL, will have a purely electric version.

At the end of July, PSA had announced a stand-alone electric vehicle platform called eVMP for larger vehicles for 2023. Although this would partially overlap with FCA’s electrified Giorgio platform in terms of vehicle size, the models based on it would still be aimed at other target groups. For example, with the 800-volt technology.

The announcement stated that the eVMP would cover the power spectrum up to 250 kW – a value that a three-engined Maserati or Alfa Romeo would probably exceed. FCA is also targeting other markets with the Dodge and Chrysler brands than PSA with an eVMP geared towards Europe.

Very different than the Skateboard platforms we've seen with many automakers.Giogio sounds like a ICE/EV compromise giving consumers a choice while sharing maximum components. This isn't a modular architecture like rivals have planned but should allow for a continuation of PSA ICE/Hybrid/BEV offering except on better bones. This is different than GM using totally different kits and will eliminate any frunk.
