Mercedes fits the EQC with an 11kW charger

Mercedes-Benz has given the EQC a small upgrade for the new model year which might prove interesting for many customers. The electric SUV now has an 11 kW water-cooled onboard charger ex-works that should reduce the AC charging time by several hours.

According to the German carmaker, the 80 kWh battery can now be charged from 10 to 100 per cent in 7 hours 30 minutes, compared to 11 hours previously with 7.4 kW charging capacity (two-phase). Apart from full charging, this means that around 50 per cent more energy can be charged in the same period during an AC charging process provided the charging point supports 11 kW. This makes AC intermediate charging more attractive.

Daimler is not changing the DC charging capacity of the EQC, which has been in production since May 2019, in this small update for the new model year; it remains at 110 kW. This should enable the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 per cent within 40 minutes. Mercedes gives the WLTP consumption as being about 21 to 23 kWh/100 km. In our long-distance test, we achieved an average consumption of about 24 kWh/100km.

Overall, the electrically powered vehicles from Mercedes-Benz are enjoying increasing popularity, Daimler added. 45,000 electric cars and plug-in hybrids were delivered in the third quarter. In September alone, 2,500 EQC units were delivered.
