Mercedes has opened their first EV showroom in Japan
Mercedes-Benz has opened its first dealership worldwide exclusively for electric cars – in Japan. It was built in Yokohama and offers 1,221 square metres of space for the presentation of up to seven electric cars as well as an area for vehicle handovers and three CHAdeMO chargers.

Mercedes expands EQC recall in China
In February, Beijing Benz, the joint venture of BAIC Motor and Mercedes-Benz, announced a recall for the EQC electric model after dozens of owners complained about engine problems. However, it seems that this recall was insufficient, as it has now been expanded.

Mercedes rumoured to drop the EQC in 2023
According to German media, Mercedes-Benz plans to stop production of its first electric model EQC in May 2023. This would not only affect production in Bremen, but also in China at Beijing Benz Automotive (BBAC).

EQC turns out not to be waterproof
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 19,253 units of its EQC electric SUV worldwide, 3,073 of them in Germany. The reason is that water ingress into the steering control unit could lead to a failure of the steering power assistance.

Norway marks 11,811 new EV registrations in August
In Norway, 11,811 new electric cars were registered in August. The share of electric cars in new passenger car registrations was 71.9 per cent last month. Norway’s most successful model across all drive types in August was the Tesla Model Y with 1,308 new registrations.

Not smart if you can’t start
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 1,463 units of its EQC electric model worldwide, 136 of these in Germany. Due to inadequate sealing of the high-voltage battery housing, corrosion could lead to moisture ingress, making it impossible to restart the vehicle. In addition, there is an increased risk of fire.

Mercedes EQC to receive two new variants
Mercedes-Benz is sending two new variants of the EQC to dealers in May: a base model configured uniformly throughout Europe at list prices starting at 66,068 euros and a new sports version that will round off the model range upwards in the future at prices starting at 73,208 euros.

Blacklane acquires majority stake in Havn
Berlin-based limousine service Blacklane, in which Daimler is a major shareholder, has acquired a majority stake in Havn. Havn is a London-based chauffeur service founded in 2019 by Jaguar Land Rover, which operates a fleet of the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace in the British capital.

Mercedes reveals production locations for EQ ramp up
Mercedes-Benz is now providing a comprehensive overview of the production sites for its electric offensive for the EQ brand. Production of the EQA at the Rastatt plant in Germany among others has already started ahead of the model’s world premiere on 20 January 2021.

Mercedes fits the EQC with an 11kW charger
Mercedes-Benz has given the EQC a small upgrade for the new model year which might prove interesting for many customers. The electric SUV now has an 11 kW water-cooled onboard charger ex-works that should reduce the AC charging time by several hours.

US market launch of Mercedes EQC delayed till 2021
Mercedes has postponed the US launch of its EQC by at least one year to 2021. The German carmaking giant says that this “strategic decision” is because it “first wants to meet the growing customer demand for the EQC in Europe”. Meanwhile, BAIC wants to double its stake in Daimler.

Mercedes recalls almost 1,700 EQC globally
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 1,696 EQCs worldwide – 571 of them in their native Germany. This affects models from the production period from February to October 2019. A bolt in the front axle differential could break and block the front wheels of the electric car.

ZF to supply drive components for Mercedes’ EQC
This is the third major order for ZF to announced within a few weeks: The supplier from Lake Constance is supplying Daimler with large parts of the drive system for the Mercedes EQC. Previously, BMW and Fiat Chrysler had ordered hybrid transmissions worth billions.

Mercedes confirms new electric SUV model EQB
Daimler executives have confirmed new models at the auto shows in New York and Shanghai. Mercedes-Benz will launch the new compact SUV GLB in 2021 and turn it into a fully electric car called EQB at the same time. The carmaker also presented a special edition of its EQC EV.

Daimler doubles workforce at battery factory a year early
Daimler’s battery subsidiary Accumotive say they will double the workforce at the Kamenz plant before the year’s end – a year ahed of schedule. 1,000 employees will then assemble battery packs for the upcoming Mercedes EQC, while Daimler is also setting up a second battery factory at the moment.

EQC to celebrate September world premiere in Stockholm
Daimler has announced intentions to present the serial version of the EQC on the fourth of September at this year’s @me convention in Stockholm. This means they will beat their competitor Audi by about two weeks, who postponed the presentation of their e-tron to the 17th.
