Mercedes EQA now available to order in Europe

In their home market, Mercedes gives a starting price at €47,540.50 As this results in a netlist price of less than 40,000 euros, the EQA is eligible for the innovation premium of 9,570 euros (federal share: 6,000 euros, manufacturer share: 3,000 euros plus 19% VAT) in Germany. The EQA would then cost 37,970.50 euros, including VAT there.

Mercedes points out that customers can charge at Ionity’s fast charging stations as part of various packages at a discounted price of €0.29/kWh. However, the Mercedes ‘me Charge’ service is only included for one year at no additional cost in Germany. From the second year onward, as with the EQC, a basic fee of 99 euros per year is due in order to continue charging at the discounted rates at Ionity. Beyond the Ionity tariff, there is the additional benefit that the vehicle can plan its charging stops on longer routes in such a way that the charging process can also be started safely at the designated station via its own service at known conditions.

In the UK, prices starting around £42,000 have been estimated, although the official Mercedes statement relies solely on German prices. Market launch is expected “in the first half of 2021”, following the continent’s market launch.

As reported at the launch, further variants of the EQA are to follow: Firstly, all-wheel-drive models with an additional electric powertrain (eATS) and outputs beyond 200 kW. Secondly, a version with a range of over 500 kilometers (WLTP). However, Mercedes has not yet specified these models in concrete terms.

In other news, Daimler last night announced a split-up of the company. The car segment will turn into Mercedes-Benz while Daimler Trucks will list as an independent company on the stock exchange. The Board claims the move would help the new “pure-play companies” to cover their segments more proficiently and focus on future electrification and digitisation.

Update 05 February 2021: After Germany, the EQA is now also available for order in the UK. Prices start from £40,495 for the EQA 250 Sport incl. plug-in car grant or £43,495 without PiCG. However, the EQA’s eligibility for the plug-in car grant is still pending, awaiting final confirmation from the UK Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles. Until final confirmation the vehicle will not even appear on the portal, so no applications can be made.
