Technotrans to deliver battery cooling systems for trains

Technotrans, the German technology and services group based in Sassenberg in Münsterland, has been awarded two follow-up contracts in the field of electrified rail transport. More than 100 battery cooling systems are to go to two battery manufacturers, the order volume is in the seven-figure range.

The products for the orders are customised solutions tailored to the respective application, according to Technotrans. The company plans to deliver the battery cooling systems from the end of 2021, “directly following the orders already in progress from both customers”.

One of the orders is for 82 cooling units for use in regional trains in Italy, with one train to be equipped with two Technotrans systems. The company plans to deliver the products within a year. According to the information, the units are characterised above all by a compact design, precise temperature control and high energy efficiency. The client has already invested in 60 identical systems from Technotrans.

Under the second order, 29 units are to be delivered to a battery manufacturer for shunting hybrid locomotives in the course of the coming year. The customer had previously purchased 21 high-tech cooling systems. Both partners had also expressed interest in continuing the cooperation and held out the prospect of further orders for the period after 2022.

Technotrans’ core competence is, according to its own information, “customised solutions which are precisely tailored to each specific application”. The company is represented at 17 locations worldwide and is currently pursuing the “Future Ready 2025” strategy, which also includes the area of e-mobility. Battery cooling systems for rail transport played a key role for the company. Looking to the future, Technotrans is confident: “With these follow-up orders, we are underlining our claim to technological leadership in the field of rail transport battery systems,” says Michael Finger, spokesperson for the Technotrans Executive Board.
