30 BYD electric buses hit the roads in Jakarta

The Indonesian capital Jakarta has put 30 electric buses into operation. The electric 12-metre buses come from BYD and are operated by TransJakarta.

Last year, Transjakarta announced plans to procure 10,000 electric buses by 2030. The Jakarta governor’s goal is for at least 50 per cent of Transjakarta buses to be electric by 2025 and all by 2030.

The 12-metre BYD electric buses were imported by local company Vektr Mobiliti Indonesia (VKTR), a subsidiary of Bakrie & Brothers. These are low-deck BYD buses type K-9 with a maximum capacity of 60 passengers

“We establish a strategic partnership with BYD Auto, which has become a technological partner in the electric bus industry for Bakrie Autoparts since 2018,” Vektr Mobiliti President Director Gilarsi W. Setijono said. “TransJakarta requests buses with higher deck for the second batch of their orders and also medium-sized buses that will serve as feeders. We will make sure that these demands are met,” Gilarsi said.

VKTR is aiming to develop the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia further. The company says it has prepared a number of plans to build partnerships, such as the recently signed strategic partnership with Karoseri Tri Sakti, a local manufacturing company based in Magelang city that also produces electric buses.
