BYD announces new dealer partnerships in Europe

Chinese carmaker BYD has added two new dealer cooperations to its network in Europe. Motor Distributors Ltd (MLD) is active in Ireland and will offer BYD models at select locations, including in Dublin and Cork. RSA, a dealer with whom BYD already cooperates in Norway, will offer the Chinese EVs in Finland and Iceland.

According to the automaker, it has sold more than 3.5 million “new energy passenger cars” worldwide as of February 2023. Its vehicles are sold in over 70 countries, however, most of the brand’s sales remain in their native maker China.

BYD initially launched three electric vehicle models in select European countries at the end of 2022. Two more series could follow in 2023 – the Seal electric mid-size sedan and possibly the Dolphin electric compact car. Like the first three European models (the Atto 3 compact SUV, the Han large sedan and the Tang large SUV), all BYD electric cars offered in Europe are still built in China.

And BYD is ramping up production there, not just of its cars but also of its Blade Batteries. Just last week, plans for yet another battery plant in China became public – the third plant BYD announced since February. Earlier this year, there were also reports that BYD is looking to buy Ford’s vehicle plant in Saarlouis, Germany.

Delighted to read that BYD is coming to Ireland. The Atto 3, Seal and Dolphin will generate a lot of interest here. Price, warranty and service intervals will be key factor factors.
