The electric drive system is a 3-in-1 unit that integrates power electronics, a drive unit and a reduction gearbox. This third generation of Vitesco’s integrated axle drives is EMR for Electronics Motor Reducer. Vitesco’s electric final drive for Honda achieves a peak power of 150 kW and a torque of 310 Nm at a weight of 76 kilograms.

The EMR3 is not the latest electric drive from Vitesco; the supplier has already presented the EMR4 in 2021, which covers the power range from 80 to 230 kW. Depending on the customer’s wishes, the EMR4 is available as a permanently excited or externally excited synchronous motor: one with permanent magnets containing rare earths and one without.

The EMR3, on the other hand, is always a PSM with a permanent magnet. This generation was only offered in two power levels with 100 or 150 kW. The 100 kW model technology is mainly familiar from the numerous PSA BEVs, but Hyundai also relies on the EMR3 from Vitesco in China. According to the supplier, the EMR3 has been selected for eight vehicle brands. Over three-quarters of a million units have been produced by June 2023, and the EMR3 has “proven to be a great market success for the company”.

The Honda e:Ny1 is based on the e:N Architecture F, a Honda platform for front-wheel drive electric cars. The model is a four-door B-segment electric SUV that is said to have a WLTP range of 214 kilometres on a 68.8 kWh battery pack.

“It is an honour for us to deliver our successful electric axle drive to Honda for its new e:Ny1 model. We also see this business as a confirmation of our global strategy with well-established manufacturing and R&D sites in core world markets,” said Thomas Stierle, board member and head of the Electrification Solutions division at Vitesco Technologies.
