Mullen kicks off production of the ‘Three’ electric truck

Mullen Automotive has started production of its Mullen Three, a Class 3 commercial electric truck, at its assembly in Tunica, Mississippi. The first customer deliveries are planned to go out this month.

The US American company plans to gradually ramp up its Class 3 production rate through the remainder of this calendar year. Once fully in swing, production capacity at the Tunica facility is planned at 3,000 Class 3 vehicles annually per shift. Mullen plans to add a second shift for Class 3 production, which will increase capacity to 6,000 total vehicles per year.

Mullen’s ‘Three’ electric truck features an EPA-rated range of 120 miles and a hauling capacity of 5,800 pounds. With an MSRP starting at $68,500, the Mullen Three qualifies for $7,500 in federal tax incentives. According to the manufacturer, it is an efficient Class 3 low cab forward EV truck featuring an 11,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The maximum box length is set at 14 feet.

The electric drive has a capacity of 120 kW, coupled with an 89 kWh battery capacity, which allows for the above-mentioned 120-mile range. Charging can be done via Level 2 or Level 3 chargers, with up to 11 kW or 68 kW, respectively. Mullen also points to the truck’s ability to manage a 19 foot turning radius.

“Our team has been working seven days a week, day and night, getting this plant reconfigured and ready for Class 3 production,” said company chairman and CEO David Michery in a statement. “It’s exciting to share this milestone with local leadership, investors and customers.”

The first orders for the Three have already been accepted as well: In May, Randy Marion Automotive ordered 1,000 of the electric trucks from Mullen. Deliveries are scheduled for this month, so Mullen is just on time with their production launch. This was also commented on at the launch: “Whenever a new vehicle program hits this stage, it’s great that we can bring key people to the plant like we did today with our dealer, Randy Marion, and first customer, MGT, so they feel the excitement first-hand and see the reality that our vehicles are heading their way very soon,” said John Schwegman, Chief Commercial Sales Officer, Mullen Automotive.
