Major Spanish cities ban e-scooters from public transport

In Madrid, it is now forbidden to take electric scooters on public transport. The ban applies to buses as well as subway trains and streetcars. Other Spanish cities are also following suit.

The new regulation applies not only in the Spanish capital itself – but in the entire Madrid metropolitan area. The background to this is the fire involving an electric scooter battery in the Madrid subway in mid-October. The ban will remain in force for a maximum of nine months until an investigation has been completed.

There is also a temporary ban on such small electric vehicles on public transport in Barcelona for safety reasons. In Seville, the use of electric scooters on the subway during rush hour on weekdays has also been restricted.

Bans on the use of e-scooters have already been imposed in Hamburg and London.
