VW launches pre-sales of the ID.7 in China

VW is now also starting pre-sales of the ID.7 in China. The electric sedan offered by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture as the ID.7 Vizzion has a base target price of 237,700 yuan, which corresponds to around 30,500 euros. (UPDATE)

For comparison: in Germany, the VW ID.7 hit the market at prices starting at 56,995 euros, and in the UK the vehicle was on offer from 55,570 pounds (approx. 63,700 euros). Even though the China price of the ID.7 Vizzion may seem low from a European perspective, it is actually higher than expected. The portal Car News China refers to earlier media reports according to which the base price will be between 25,000 and 30,000 US dollars. However, the 237,700 yuan corresponds to around 33,300 dollars.

The ID.7 offshoot from FAW-VW differs slightly from the European model from Emden not only in terms of price but also in terms of technical data. The battery with NMC cells has an energy content of 84.8 kWh. The rear-wheel drive version can travel up to 642 kilometres in the Chinese CLTC test cycle, while the all-wheel drive model with a second electric motor on the front axle has a range of 570 kilometres.

An important point at present: the version that VW has now launched in China still has the 150 kW electric motor with 310 Nm torque in the rear. There are currently massive problems with the production of the new 210 kW APP550 model in Kassel, which is why the production of numerous MEB models in Europe has had to be curtailed.

In its article, the CN EV Post cites models such as the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Han EV as the ID.7 Vizzion’s main competitors. In fact, the 4.96 metre-long ID.7 Vizzion is much closer to the Han EV in the sedan range, while the BYD is 4.99 meters long. The Model 3 is a good deal shorter at 4.72 metres but also offers plenty of storage space with its large frunk and sub-trunk. The Model 3 is currently the most expensive of the models mentioned here, with a base price of 261,400 yuan (33,775 euros), while the Han EV is available starting from 209,800 yuan (27,110 euros).

Update 18 December 2023

The VW ID.7 has been officially launched on the Chinese market. The electric saloon offered by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture as the ID.7 Vizzion is now available there at prices starting from 227,777 yuan (approx. 29,300 euros). The base price is therefore around 10,000 yuan lower than announced at the start of pre-sales in November.
