Hyundai and LGES to build battery factory in Georgia
Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution have announced a joint venture to produce battery cells for electric cars in the USA. The Korean companies will invest over $4.3 bn and hold the JV equally. The selected site is the state of Georgia which is no stranger to Hyundai.

BMW to build ‘New Class’ electric car in China as well
BMW will also manufacture its “Neue Klasse” or New Class electric cars in China. Following the market launch in 2025, the next-gen EV models will also be produced by the China joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) in Shenyang from 2026, as will the batteries required for them.

Honda and GS Yuasa have agreed to establish a joint venture for battery development. The new company, called Honda GS Yuasa EV Battery R&D, will launch at the end of 2023. Both companies will hold a 50/50 stake in the company and are already planning a battery factory in Japan.

Iveco Group has announced plans to acquire Nikola’s electric truck joint venture in Europe, established in 2019. The deal will cost Iveco $35 million and will effectively buy out Nikola from the European markets. Nikola says it will focus on its US activities.

The two Japanese companies Honda and GS Yuasa are planning a joint battery factory in Japan. Production is said to kick off in 2027. The cell factory is to be built and operated by a joint venture between the two companies that has existed for 14 years.

SK On announces plan for precursors joint venture in South Korea
