BYD and Iveco to deliver 188 electric buses to Naples

Iveco and BYD have emerged as the winners of an extensive electric bus tender by public transport operator ANM in Naples. However, the Chinese manufacturer will supply significantly more vehicles because it won three lots.

Iveco won a lot for the delivery of 46 e-buses with lengths of nine and ten metres. BYD won three lots and is to supply a total of 142 electric buses in lengths of eleven, 12 and 18 metres to Naples. It is not clear from the reports when the vehicles are to be delivered.

The lot for the 46 midibuses from Iveco has a total value of 25.3 million euros, as ANM has set a unit price of 550,000 euros per vehicle. A total of 78 eleven-metre buses from BYD are included in the tender with a value of 44.85 million euros (unit price: 575,000 euros). The lot for the 50 twelve-metre buses at 600,000 euros each is worth 30 million euros, while the 14 articulated buses are budgeted at 800,500 euros each or a total of 11.2 million euros.

However, ANM had actually put 253 electric buses out to tender, but contracts have now only been awarded for 188 units. The reason is simple: no bids were received for two further lots for a total of 65 electric minibuses – with a total value of 32.8 million euros.
