LG has already started assembling 11 kW chargers at the new plant and plans to manufacture 175 kW fast chargers there in the first half of 2024. Later in the year, the manufacturer will add a 350 kW charger to its product range for North America.

LG Electronics only entered the charging infrastructure market last year and presented its first products in May 2023 – AC and DC chargers, but with slightly different charging capacities. There was initially talk of 100 and 200 kW power for the DC products. But LG now mentions 175 and 350 kW, the most popular EV chargers on the market.

As the company announced in November, the AC wallbox is available with a Type 1 plug and can be mounted directly on the wall or a column. The DC chargers can be ordered with CCS1 or NACS connections. At that time, however, it was unclear where LG would manufacture the chargers. The only clear thing was that it had to be somewhere in the USA – to be eligible for government infrastructure funding, the devices had to be manufactured mainly in the United States.

LG does not only want to address private customers (in the AC sector) with its charging products. According to the press release, the company intends “to tap into the diverse EV charging demands of various businesses and facilities, such as hotels, shopping malls, retail stores, gas stations and parking garages, to drive future growth.” LG’s B2B experience in the hotel TV and digital signage sectors in the US will be helpful in this regard.

The factory in Texas is LG’s first production site for charging infrastructure outside of South Korea. The Koreans decided on the location in Fort Worth because it could use existing facilities, and Texas has “excellent logistics and transportation networks.” Moreover, it is home to other companies from the automotive industry.

“By establishing our EV charger production factory in Texas, we will be able to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for EV infrastructure in the US,” says Jang Ik-hwan, president of the LG Business Solutions Company. “LG is dedicated to delivering uncompromising quality and will offer customers reliable EV charging solutions that combine efficient charger units with advanced control systems.”
