The DHL Express site in Nieuw-Vennep is located around 20 kilometres southwest of Amsterdam city center. It is the first Dutch branch of the company to be equipped with chargers on a large scale by Shell. However, the partners do not specify the charging capacity with which the vehicles can now be charged on the company’s premises. Shell merely states that the charging system can be expanded if necessary and that no additional network capacity was required thanks to dynamic load management.

According to Shell, around 20 percent of DHL Express’ 450 delivery vans in the Netherlands are already fully electric. In September 2023, the Group had already installed 125 charging points for DHL in Brussels. “Installing the EV chargers with DHL Express fits in with our range of solutions for company locations. In addition to EV chargers, renewable diesel for heavy-duty trucks and chargers for e-trucks can be considered,” emphasized Fedde Wielenga, Head of Fleet Solutions at Shell Netherlands.

Kees de Lange, Managing Director of DHL Express Netherlands, added: “With the realization of the charging infrastructure at our Nieuw-Vennep site, we have come closer to our goal. As DHL Express Netherlands, we want to make our last mile delivery 100% sustainable by 2030. By commissioning the Shell charging stations, we can further electrify our fleet.”
