France: Peugeot e-208 now available for under €30,000
Peugeot has slashed the prices of its e-208 in France. The entry-level version in Style trim with a 100 kW motor and small battery now costs just €28,000, a price reduction of €6,100. In Germany, the same version is priced from 36,325 euros. However, the other variants of the small electric car will remain at their previous price level in France, too.
The background to the pricing policy is probably the falling demand in France. As the French portal Automobil Propre reports, the e-208 was sold 23,602 times there in 2024 (+4% YoY), but primarily thanks to the social leasing subsidy scheme effective in the first half of the year. In the second half of the year, the model only achieved a good 6,000 registrations – an alarming development.
The introduction of cheaper competitors in the small electric car segment is likely one of the reasons. The Citroën ë-C3, for example, costs from 23,300 euros in France, the electric Renault R5 from 27,990 euros. In terms of price, the e-208 is thus once again more competitive, especially as up to 4,000 euros in environmental bonuses are available in France. In addition, even in the now cheaper basic version, it is quite lavishly equipped compared to the aforementioned models – for example, with a 10-inch touchscreen, electric windows, automatic air conditioning, parking aids and a rain sensor.
The vehicle is 4.06 metres long, 1.75 metres wide and 1.43 metres high. Last year, Peugeot gave the e-208 a facelift and introduced a third equipment line. In the course of this, the model, which was initially priced close to the 40,000 euro mark, also became slightly cheaper in Germany. Since then, it has been available from just under 37,000 euros.
