Honda presents two concept cars at CES 2025
Honda gave its initial preview of the 0 Series at CES one year ago with two design concepts, followed later by some more information on the technologies used. Now, in January 2025, the next preview of Honda’s new electric car series looks even more mature: with the unveiling of the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV prototypes and the presentation of the new Asimo OS operating system, it is becoming increasingly clear what we can expect from the 0 Series.
The Honda 0 Saloon bears a clear resemblance to the design concept of the same name that Honda presented at CES last year. However, some things have changed: the gullwing doors of the original concept have now been replaced by conventional doors on the new prototype, for example. The Honda 0 Saloon is a saloon with an unusually angular body shape, which appears wedge-shaped and is also somewhat reminiscent of a spaceship. The vehicle is intended to compete in the luxury class and would therefore be a rival to the Lucid Air or the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
The prototype was developed in preparation for the market launch, which is scheduled for 2026, initially in North America and then in global markets such as Europe and Japan. Honda is talking about a low, sporty design that should set the saloon apart from other electric cars at first glance. In turn, the interior is said to be more spacious than one would expect based on the exterior dimensions.
The Honda 0 Saloon is set to become the flagship model of the Honda 0 Series, will be based on the newly developed special EV architecture and will feature a range of next-generation technologies that epitomise the Honda 0 Series’ “Thin, Light, and Wise” development approach.
In terms of technology, the Honda 0 Salon will support Level 3 automated driving, which still requires a driver who must be able to take control at all times. In addition, Honda is looking forward to ‘ultra-personal optimisation’, which will offer a mobility experience tailored to each individual user, made possible by the new Asimo OS operating system.
The second prototype Honda 0 SUV is based on the van-like Space Hub concept model that Honda unveiled at CES 2024 and is intended to illustrate the new value of electric vehicles as a ‘space’ for people that Honda wants to offer with its future electric vehicles.
The Honda 0 SUV is a mid-size electric SUV that will be the first model in the Honda 0 Series to go into production and will be available in North America in the first half of 2026. By applying the ‘Thin, Light, and Wise’ approach to an SUV, the interior space has been further increased, creating a spacious cabin with a generous field of vision and great flexibility.
Like the Honda 0 Saloon, the Honda 0 SUV will feature a host of next-generation technologies that epitomise the Honda 0 Series’ “Thin, Light and Wise” development approach.
Honda plans to release a total of seven new models by 2030 in the ‘0’ Series. These should have a range of at least 480 kilometres. Incidentally, the electric vehicles will no longer be built in Japan, but in the USA – at the Honda Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio. The new plant in Alliston in the Canadian province of Ontario, which Honda plans to put into operation in 2028, will be added as a further production facility at a later date.
Incidentally, Honda is using the NACS standard for charging technology in North America so that the vehicles can also be charged at Tesla Superchargers. Honda also emphasises that it has participated in the Ionna fast-charging joint venture, which aims to set up 30,000 fast-charging points in North America by 2030. In total, North American drivers of 0-series cars should have access to 100,000 fast-charging points from 2030.
