SVOLT presents Fengxing Short Blade Battery
SVOLT Energy’s new fast-charging power battery features the company’s third-generation short blade cells, which, as the Chinese portal Cn EV Post reports, use high-energy cathode and anode materials. The battery’s energy density is 185 Wh/kg.
The ‘C’ is an indicator of the ratio of battery size to charging power. At 1C, an 80 kWh battery can be charged with a maximum of 80 kW. At 6C, the same battery can theoretically be charged with six times the charging capacity, meaning up to 480 kW. The first Chinese electric vehicles are currently being offered with 5C batteries, such as the Li Mega from Li Auto or the current version of the Zeekr 001. Both have batteries from CATL on board, which should theoretically be able to charge up to 500 kilometres in twelve minutes, although the maximum charging power of these batteries should only ever be available for a short time.
In June, there were reports that both CATL and BYD are also working on a battery with a charging rate of 6C. CATL is currently developing a 6C variant of its Qilin battery, which is expected to launch in the second half of the year. Competitor BYD is also rumoured to want to follow suit.
Back to SVOLT Energy: In addition to the 6C variant, the Chinese battery maker also unveiled a long-life version its Fengxing battery. It has a lifespan of 15 years and 600,000 kilometres.
Moreover, SVOLT Energy presented a battery specifically developed for off-road vehicles. It has a capacity of up to 59 kWh and supports 800V charging, the company says. It can operate in temperatures from -43°C to 60°C. And according to SVOLT, it has a discharging rate of 5C at -20°C. The battery is used in Great Wall Motor’s Tank 500 Hi-4-Z.
And there is more. According to Chinese media, SVOLT Energy presented another two new batteries for the commercial vehicle market at its Battery Day in Chengdu, China. The first has an energy content of 91.4 kWh and a 4C charging rate. The long-life version has an energy content of 95.7 kWh and a charging rate of 3C. It comes with an 8-year or 1.5-million-kilometer warranty, Cn EV Post reports.
According to recent reports, SVOLT Energy is China’s fifth biggest battery manufacturer, accounting for 3.2 per cent of the market. The ranking is headed by CATL and BYD, which produced 25.32 GWh and 15.82 GWh of EV batteries in October, respectively.
