Milence connects Barcelona to Lyon with electric ‘freight corridor’
Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, Volvo Group and Traton Group, said its hubs will connect the port of Barcelona with France’s second-largest logistics center in Lyon. They will be located in Perpignan, Béziers and Malataverne, and provide fast charging to electric trucks of all brands for a default charging tariff of €0.399 per kWh.
Each hub is positioned along the TEN-T Mediterranean Corridor, one of Europe’s key logistics routes that connects the Mediterranean with countries like Slovenia and Hungary.
The Béziers hub features four CCS-chargers across four bays, while the Malataverne hub provides eight bays and four CCS chargers. Meanwhile, the Perpignan hub is equipped with three CCS chargers, powering six bays with up to 400kW of power. In a statement, Milence said that the hubs will be developed in phases and scaled up as demand increases.
“The corridor not only enhances the flow of goods across southern France but also plays a pivotal role in electrifying critical transport corridors that drive trade and commerce across southern Europe,” said Anja van Niersen, Milence CEO, adding: “The Barcelona-Lyon corridor sees thousands of trucks daily. Transitioning to electric trucks would dramatically cut CO2 emissions, enabling sustainable logistics in Europe.”
This follows a recent wider rollout of truck charging hubs by Milence across other parts of Europe, including Germany, Italy, and Belgium.
