DB Schenker successfully tests electric trucks in Finnish winter
The logistics group says that it deployed two Fuso eCanter trucks for a year, which “were used in customer operations and proved that they were up to the task even in tough Finnish winters,” the company stated in its press release. It shows that alternative drive systems can also function efficiently at low temperatures. In northern Finland, temperatures dropped as low as -30 degrees Celsius.
Tristan Keusgen, Head of European Fleet Management at DB Schenker, commented: At DB Schenker, we are committed to pioneering solutions that meet the demands of modern logistics. We have been successfully operating two electric trucks in Finland for a year now. With this successful deployment of electric trucks in a region like Lapland, which has difficult weather conditions, we are proving once again that DB Schenker is leading the way to a sustainable future of logistics.”
According to Keusgen, the trucks are mainly used for regional and local transport. The robust design and advanced technology ensure a continuous supply chain and reliable service for customers.
DB Schenker uses the latest generation of the Fuso eCanter in Finland. The vehicle offers three battery options with 41.3 to 123.9 kWh battery capacity for ranges between 80 and 200 kilometres. The energy content of the truck duo in Finland is not specified. DB Schenker only states that the vehicles are charged overnight to be ready for use the next day.
DB Schenker has been using the electric light-duty trucks from the Daimler Truck Group since 2018, particularly for the last mile. According to the logistics service provider, it currently operates around 50 Fuso eCanter trucks in various European countries.
