Verge Motorcycles launches B2B business for drive systems
The main focus here is on the in-wheel motor developed by partner company Donut Lab, which is also available for two-wheelers in several different sizes. The Donut Motor was initially developed for use in motorcycles, but the technology has since been adapted to work on other types of vehicles. Donut Lab still claims that it holds the highest torque and power density, as the motor weighs 40 kilograms and achieves a torque of 4,300 Newton metres and an output of 630 kW. These can be combined with other in-wheel motors, depending on the vehicle type.
Now, Verge is launching a new business unit to commercialise the technology for other bike manufacturers. As the company writes, “Verge Next offers a comprehensive suite of solutions for improving ride comfort, performance, and cost efficiency for all two-wheeled vehicles from scooters to motorcycles and mopeds to electric bicycles.” This means that the adapted drive system mentioned above is not yet on the market, and that Verge intends to focus on the global two-wheeler industry.

“Our goal is to help manufacturers develop even better and more innovative electric vehicles. With Donut Lab making these exciting technologies available to the entire industry, the Verge Next team features extremely high level competence especially in the development and manufacture of two-wheeled vehicles using these unique innovations,” explained Donut Lab CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Verge Motorcycles Marko Lehtimäki.
“Over the last few years, Verge Motorcycles has paved the way for the future of motorcycles. Now, we are responding to the wishes of several manufacturers to gain access to our technology platform and components for use in their own vehicles,” said Verge Motorcycles CEO Tuomo Lehtimäki, adding: “Verge Next is an ever developing ecosystem, allowing industry operators to improve the safety, driveability, and other key characteristics of their products. We have discussed potential partnerships with several manufacturers, and, with Verge Next, we are
able to establish new B2B arrangements even better than before.”
Just a few weeks ago, Verge Motorcycles also set a Guinness World Record with the longest journey by an electric motorbike on a single charge, achieving a 311-kilometre trip with a Verge TS Pro.
