German grocery chain REWE expands electric delivery fleet
The German grocery chain Rewe has announced that its delivery service is focusing on electromobility. Rewe added 64 new Mercedes-Benz eSprinters to its fleet, which are now making deliveries in Berlin and, from September, also in the city of Neuss. Specifically, 40 vehicles were set to work in Berlin, while the other 24 vehicles will start making deliveries in Neuss. The company refers to the acquisition as an important contribution to Rewe Group’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The company wrote that it is investing about five million euros in the vehicles and the expansion of the charging infrastructure. In terms of infrastructure, Rewe’s Fullfillment Centre Tempelhof, Berlin, was equipped with a total of 42 charging points where vehicles can be charged with up to 22 kW.
“We are delighted to support REWE with our eSprinter vehicles and to be able to contribute to making everyday life easier for many people. In terms of their efficiency and range, the vehicles are ideally suited to the requirements of our commercial customers. They show that locally CO₂-emission-free driving, impressive performance and comfort can be optimally combined,”
said Andreas Böger, Head of New Vehicle Sales, Mercedes-Benz Vans and Transporters Germany.
This is not Rewe’s first attempt at electrification, as the company cooperated with Einride to launch seven eActros electric trucks in 2023, as well as a charging partnership with Fastned back in 2018.
