Solaris to supply up to 180 electric buses for Malmö

Solaris has signed a new framework agreement with Nobina Sverige, one of Scandinavia’s largest public transport operators. The deal covers up to 180 electric buses, which will be delivered to Malmö over the next two years.

For the Polish bus manufacturer, the contract represents one of its largest electric bus orders from Sweden to date. Nobina will take Solaris battery-electric Urbino electric buses in four lengths: 12, 15, 18 and 24 metres. The vehicles are set to enter service in Malmö’s urban and suburban networks from 2026 and 2027.

Solaris said the investment brings the city a significant step closer to fully electrifying its public transport system. “Malmö is a particularly important city for Solaris – over the past years, the manufacturer has established a strong position there, supplying, among others, 18-meter electric buses. What’s more, Malmö is one of the few cities in Europe where 24-meter bi-articulated buses are used in regular urban traffic,” the company added.

The new order includes 78 of the 18-metre articulated buses with 600 kWh batteries, 36 of the 24-metre bi-articulated buses with 700 kWh batteries, 65 of Solaris’ 15-metre low-entry Urbino 15 LE electric buses with 500 kWh batteries, and a single 12-metre Solaris Urbino 12 electric with a 400 kWh battery.

Solaris has worked with Nobina for years, delivering numerous zero-emission vehicles to Swedish cities, including 55 electric buses for regional routes in Stockholm and 28 buses for Nobina Skåne. Earlier in 2025, the operator ordered 89 units of the Urbino 15 LE electric model.

“We are proud to continue our cooperation with Nobina, a leader in zero-emission transport in Sweden. Thanks to our experience, built up over years of presence in the Scandinavian market, we are pleased to support the next stages of Malmö’s electrification, a city that is now almost fully ready for an entirely electric public transport system,” said Sverre Skaar, CEO of Solaris Sverige AB.
