Cupra unveils camouflaged production version of the Raval

Cupra presented the camouflaged production version of the Cupra Raval at the IAA. The brand's new urban electric car is set to hit the market next year and will celebrate its world premiere in Barcelona in 2026.

This makes the Raval the first model in the VW Group’s upcoming electric small car family to go into series production. Production of the Cupra Raval will begin in the coming months, followed by the VW ID. Polo. Both models will roll off the production line in Martorell.

The fact that the Raval will be the first representative of these four models is also evident at the IAA: while the ID. Polo and the two SUV models ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq are still being shown as near-series concept cars; the Raval is actually already the finished series model. However, as the world premiere is not scheduled until next year, Cupra has camouflaged the Raval with a special vinyl film, “covered in vinyl evoking a map of the Raval district in Barcelona,” according to Cupra.

The Spanish brand has also revealed a few more details at the IAA. Compared to the ID. Polo, the Raval will have a 15-millimetre lower sports chassis, specially tuned suspension and progressive steering for greater agility. According to Cupra, all versions of the Raval will be designed to put “the person behind the wheel clearly in the centre of attention.”

The top model will be called the Raval VZ and will deliver 166 kW, as announced by VW for the ID. Polo GTI. This variant will feature 19-inch wheels with wider 235 mm tyres, DCC sports suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential and a special ESC-OFF mode. In keeping with this driving dynamics, the interior features sporty bucket seats.

As with all members of the new small car family, the base model is the MEB+ with front-wheel drive. The wheelbase is 2.60 metres for all models. According to Cupra, the Raval is 4.05 metres long, 1.78 metres wide and 1.52 metres high.

Cupra also confirms that the Raval will be available with two battery sizes, but does not provide any further details. The base version is likely to feature a 35 to 38 kWh LFP battery, with a 58 kWh NMC battery positioned above it (in the Raval VZ, among others). However, the VW brands did not provide any further details about the battery at the IAA. The price for the basic version is likely to be around £25,000. It is not yet known what Cupra will charge for the other equipment variants or even the Raval VZ.

“The CUPRA Raval is now shaping our future. Because with it, we’ve brought together everything CUPRA stands for: emotion, striking design, electrifying performance and as always, driver focused,” says Markus Haupt, interim CEO of Cupra. “For us, the CUPRA Raval is more than a car. What truly makes it special is the project behind it- the Electric Urban Car Family- which we are proud to be leading from Spain. We are strengthening synergies within the Brand Group Core and turning the country into a hub for electric mobility, making these cars accessible to millions.”
