Stellantis pauses production at several European plants

Due to weak demand, carmaker Stellantis is pausing production at six European sites for several days, in some cases even for several weeks. The measure also affects the output of electric cars – including at the Eisenach plant in Germany.

In addition to Eisenach, the French portal Les Echos reports that the affected sites include plants in France (Poissy), Italy (Pomigliano), Poland (Tychy) and Spain (Zaragoza and Madrid). According to the report, Eisenach will only be affected to a relatively small extent with a production pause of five working days – other articles mention just two days. Opel builds all drive variants of the Grandland in Eisenach, including the fully electric Grandland Electric – here is our driving report.

The DS 3 and Opel Mokka compact crossovers roll off the line at the historic Poissy plant near Paris, including their electric versions. The duration of the interruption also varies depending on the source: according to Les Echos, production will pause there for two weeks, while Reuters reports a three-week suspension in October.

In Spain (Zaragoza builds models such as the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, including their electric versions), production is expected to stop for seven or 14 days, while in Pomigliano the suspension is also said to last two weeks. For the Tychy site, a Polish Stellantis spokesperson confirmed that a production halt is planned – without specifying the duration. According to Les Echos, it will last nine days. Tychy produces the small SUV models Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600 and Alfa Romeo Junior – all of which are offered with fully electric variants.

Spokespeople for Stellantis in France and Italy cited the “difficult” market conditions in Europe as the reason. They said it was necessary to “balance” inventories. The statements did not mention specific powertrains, and the interruptions affect a wide range of segments from small cars to mid-size SUVs.

Stellantis is undergoing major changes just a few years after the merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler. The group’s long-standing CEO, Carlos Tavares, left following disputes over the company’s future strategy. He was succeeded by Antonio Filosa at the helm of the multi-brand group. Stellantis reported a billion-euro loss for the first half of 2025, attributing it in part to US tariff policy. However, there had already been other problems in North America and Europe, which ultimately led to the split with Carlos Tavares.

Stellantis is not alone in taking such measures, even if the scope of the production suspensions is broader in this case. A few days ago, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles confirmed that production at its Hanover plant (VW T7 Multivan and ID. Buzz) would be suspended during the autumn holidays.
