Daimler Buses has been commissioned by public transport operator Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn SZU AG (SZU for short) to plan and implement the charging infrastructure at the Rütihof bus depot in Wädenswil on Lake Zurich.

By the end of 2026, Daimler Buses will have installed several charging stations in the existing buildings of the depot for charging during the day and at night, including digital load and charging management.

The final stage of the project will see a total of 43 CCS2 charging points with a capacity of up to 150 kW per vehicle integrated into the existing bus depot. The cost for the installation of the new bus depot has been stated to be CHF 7.3 million (approx. EUR 7.8 million).

One major aspect of the project, as Daimler Truck writes, is the implementation of the power supply concept. As the company writes, this is “achieved by the construction of transformer stations with several transformers and the existing medium-voltage power line. The installation of a digital load and charging management system from Sinos is also of central importance.”

This marks the fourth electric bus depot that Daimler Buses has realised as a total contractor in Switzerland and integrated into existing building structures. These were all large-scale projects with ten to 28 charging points, which were implemented throughout Switzerland.

In addition to the infrastructure order, SZU subsidiary AHW Busbetriebe has commissioned the delivery of 13 electric eCitaro solo and articulated buses. According to the manufacturer, deliveries “will take place in stages from the fourth quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027.”

Just a few days ago, Daimler reported a similar order for buses and a depot from the German city of Leipzig, and in March, Daimler introduced a digital service package for its buses, which is finding use in both projects.
