Polish municipal association orders 42 electric buses from Solaris
GZM Metropolis, a union of municipalities in the Silesian region of Poland, has now placed a follow-up order with Solaris. Under the newly signed contract, 24 solo and 18 articulated electric buses will be delivered to the operator PKM Świerklaniec. The first contract between Solaris and GZM Metropolis dates back to 2022 and at the time included 32 electric buses, which were delivered the following year to operators in Katowice, Gliwice, Sosnowiec and Świerklaniec.
The new vehicles are intended exclusively for PKM Świerklaniec and are scheduled to join the fleet in the first half of 2026. The ordered buses are part of the latest Urbino model generation, which does not feature a motor tower. The Urbino 12 electric is equipped with around 600 kWh of battery capacity, providing a range of approximately 600 kilometres. Previous versions of the Urbino 12 electric offered a maximum of 520 kWh, and prior to 2022, only up to 395 kWh was possible. In the Urbino 18 electric, the new model generation has a battery capacity of 800 kWh.
The 12-metre buses for PKM Świerklaniec accommodate up to 70 passengers, while the articulated buses can carry up to 120 passengers. The buses will be charged at the operator’s depot using conventional plug-in systems.
