Celcius Logistics says it is the first company in India to deploy electric reefer trucks on a large scale and is building the country’s largest fleet in this category. It has commissioned 100 units so far and plans to roll out the remaining 250 by March next year.

The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Switch Mobility, which specialises in electric buses and electric light commercial vehicles, for the supply of 350 electric reefer trucks. It will invest one billion rupees (approx. €9.8 million) in procuring these EVs, developing related infrastructure such as charging stations and parking facilities, and training drivers.

Celcius Logistics will use the electric reefer trucks for last-mile deliveries of dairy and pharmaceutical products, frozen foods, fruits and vegetables, and seafood. The company will deploy its Celcius Green fleet in New Delhi initially, and then in Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Hyderabad (Telangana).

“With Celcius Green, we’re taking a big step towards making cold logistics cleaner, smarter, and more future-ready,” said Swarup Bose, founder and CEO of Celcius Logistics. Commenting on the partnership, Switch Mobility CEO Ganesh Mani said, “This first and largest 3.5-tonne EV reefer order in India showcases how sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand.”

Switch Mobility will supply 350 units of the IeV4, its 3.5-tonne electric truck that offers a maximum payload capacity of 1.75 tonnes. The company equips this model with a 32.2 kWh LFP battery pack and a permanent magnet synchronous motor generating 60 kW and 230 Nm of torque.

The IeV4 has a top speed of 80 kph and can climb up to a 22% gradient. It covers a distance of 206 kilometres on a full charge according to ARAI tests, but Switch Mobility expects it to deliver a range of 130 kilometres in real-world conditions.
