MZA Warszawa orders 79 additional electric buses from Solaris
In September 2025, MZA and Solaris signed a contract for the firm purchase of 50 Urbino 18 electric buses and 29 Urbino 12 electric buses, alongside an option allowing MZA to double the order to 100 battery-electric articulated buses and 58 battery-electric solo buses. Six months after the signing, Warsaw’s public transport operator has now exercised this option.
The newly ordered buses are identical to those previously commissioned, which are scheduled to arrive in Warsaw by the end of 2026. These are Solaris buses of the new generation, featuring no traditional motor tower and equipped with battery capacities of approximately 500 kWh or 700 kWh, depending on the vehicle length. Charging is carried out exclusively via a plug-in connection. The delivery of the second batch is now planned for the first half of 2027.
The collaboration between Solaris and MZA Warszawa spans 28 years, with the first Solaris electric buses entering service in Warsaw in 2015. Since then, the public transport operator has continuously expanded its fleet with additional battery-electric Solaris vehicles. Currently, 163 units are in operation. With the buses ordered this year alone, the electric fleet will grow significantly. Additionally, Solaris is currently handling two separate orders for MZA simultaneously. Alongside the 158 electric buses from the aforementioned contract, the manufacturer is also producing 50 more battery-electric articulated buses for MZA, which were ordered in October.
