India: Olectra to deploy 1,085 electric buses in Telangana
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), the state owned public transport operator, has awarded two contracts for the supply, operation, and maintenance of a total of 1,085 electric buses to EveyTrans Private Limited, a sister concern of Olectra Greentech Limited. The order consists of 1,025 12-metre non-AC electric buses and 60 12-metre AC buses.
EveyTrans Private Limited will procure the 1,085 electric buses from Olectra Greentech Limited and operate them on a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) basis for a period of twelve years on intra-city routes in Telangana. Olectra Greentech Limited states 18 billion rupees (approximately €168 million euros) as the approximate value of the buses.
Olectra Greentech Limited will deliver the 1,085 electric buses to EveyTrans Private Limited in phases over a period of 20 months. The company will likely use its X2 model for this order, as it is the only 12-metre electric bus it makes for city bus applications. Back in December, TGSRTC commissioned 65 12-metre electric buses manufactured by Olectra Greentech Limited and supplied via EveyTrans Private Limited. These electric buses also appeared to be the X2 model.
The X2 has a low floor height of 400 mm and accommodates up to 39 seating passengers. The 12-metre electric bus has an LFP battery pack that takes four to five hours to charge and delivers a range of up to 300 kilometres. It accelerates from 0 to 30 kph in 10.5 seconds and achieves an electronically limited top speed of 70 kph. TGSRTC has set a target of building a fleet of 2,800 electric buses for operations within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. The fleet will comprise a mix of newly procured and retrofitted electric buses.
