FedEx deploys 14 Mercedes eSprinter vans in the UAE
FedEx is using the fleet of Mercedes-Benz eSprinters for pick-up and delivery operations across the seven Emirates. It estimates that these electric vans will collectively save approximately 148 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The move brings FedEx closer to its goal of making its global operations carbon-neutral by 2040, ten years ahead of the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 target.
Mercedes-Benz Vans offers the eSprinter in multiple configurations, but FedEx has not disclosed which one it is using in its fleet. The company only states that the vehicles offer a maximum payload capacity of up to three tonnes and an estimated range of up to 380 kilometres on a single charge.
Commenting on the new initiative, Taarek Hinedi, FedEx Middle East Vice President for Operations and Planning & Engineering, said: “FedEx is committed to building a smarter, more efficient network for our customers. Electric vehicles are proving their value across our global operations, and expanding our fleet in the UAE gives us a tangible opportunity to reduce last-mile emissions while supporting reliable delivery performance with the sustained growth of e-commerce.”
FedEx started testing EVs in the UAE with one-tonne electric trucks in December 2022. It began using EVs in commercial operations in September 2023 with a small fleet of three units, one of which appeared to be a Peugeot e-Expert in the XL panel van configuration.
Compared to the Middle East, FedEx is advancing its transition to EVs in the Asia-Pacific region at a much faster pace. In China, for example, the company states that electric models account for more than 20 per cent of its delivery fleet. In Singapore, which is more comparable to the UAE in size, the company recently expanded its EV fleet to 39 units. In its 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, it said it had 8,018 on- and off-road EVs in its global fleet as of 31 May 2024.
