Windrose to introduce Plug&Charge for its electric trucks
Windrose’s electric trucks will soon support ISO 15118-20, enabling automatic Plug&Charge authentication. This feature allows the charging process to start securely and without the need for RFID cards or mobile applications once the vehicle is connected, as Hubject describes. It will support not only CCS charging but also future MCS charging processes.
However, implementing Plug&Charge is not just about simplifying the charging process for truck drivers. It also aims to optimise fleet operations through automated contract handling and streamlined billing across interoperable charging networks. Encrypted end-to-end communication ensures the security of all transactions.
Windrose is a Chinese electric truck manufacturer with global ambitions. Earlier this year, the company established a presence at the Belgian port of Antwerp-Bruges. At the ‘Windrose Park Antwerp’, the company plans to assemble vehicles for the European market and establish departments for research and development and aftersales. The strategy, which involves ‘Windrose Parks’, partnerships with charging infrastructure and service providers, and the global Windrose platform, was explained in detail by CEO Wen Han in an interview with electrive in December.
“At Windrose, we are building electric trucks not only for zero emissions, but for seamless global operations. Plug&Charge under ISO 15118-20 is a critical enabler for long-haul electrification, where uptime, security, and cross-border interoperability are essential.,” says Wen Han, according to the Hubject announcement. “By partnering with Hubject, we are ensuring that our trucks integrate securely and seamlessly into global megawatt charging networks, giving fleet operators a charging experience that is as reliable and scalable as their diesel operations today.”
Hubject CEO Christian Hahn adds: “Commercial freight represents one of the most important opportunities in the transition to zero-emission transport. This partnership with Windrose brings Plug&Charge to long-haul trucks, giving fleet operators the automated, secure authentication they need to reduce downtime, simplify operations and keep their fleets moving.”
