As the number of electric vehicles in company car fleets increases, businesses are facing a new challenge: when employees charge their company EVs at home via a private wallbox, they expect reimbursement for the electricity costs. Until the end of 2025, it was possible to offer a tax-free flat rate of up to 70 euros in Germany. Since 1 January 2026, however, reimbursement must be based on exact kilowatt-hour consumption – although the detailed regulations are still unclear.

The new partnership between Tronity and Mercedes-Benz aims to simplify and reduce the cost of reimbursing home charging for fleet customers. Instead of relying on expensive wallboxes, manual meter readings or photo documentation, Tronity Fleet fully automates the process.

Using vehicle data, home charging sessions are calculated reliably, tamper-proof and automatically – without the need for additional hardware, according to the company, which was founded in 2020 by former SAP employees. The solution can also be seamlessly integrated into existing IT systems such as SAP.

“The partnership with Mercedes-Benz is a significant milestone for Tronity. Together, we are creating a digital solution that makes reimbursing home charging costs for electric company cars easier and more efficient than ever before. Fleet managers benefit from an intuitive, digitised reimbursement process that is transparent and fully GDPR-compliant,” said Torsten Born, Co-Founder and CEO of Tronity.

According to Tronity, the reimbursement reports are clearly structured and generated automatically, while the recorded documentation significantly simplifies internal accounting. If required, Tronity also handles the entire service process, including direct payments to employees.

“With Tronity, we have gained an innovative partner who not only understands the challenges of modern electromobility in corporate fleets but also translates them into a smart solution. Together, we are offering our fleet customers, for the first time, a fully digital and hardware-free way to reimburse home charging costs efficiently and transparently,” explained Markus Hagel, Head of Charging Fleet Solutions at Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz is now adding Tronity Fleet to its fleet portfolio in Germany, making the software a fixed component of its retail programme for business customers. The two companies had previously launched similar partnerships in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, as well as in Austria and the UK.
