Mercedes-Benz Trucks makes Volvo Manager Marcus Ekman Head of Development
Mercedes-Benz Trucks has praised Ekman for his more than 25 years of international leadership experience in commercial vehicle development, product development, and quality management. Just as Karin Rådström, CEO of parent company Daimler Truck, he worked at Scania in various roles before joining Volvo Buses in 2017 and later moving to the Volvo Group in 2020. Since then, he has served as Senior Vice President of Truck Quality.
Ekman brings extensive expertise to Mercedes-Benz Trucks, which is expected to be particularly valuable in the battery-electric truck segment. In his previous role, he was directly responsible for ensuring the reliability of new electric model ranges, such as the Volvo FH Electric, during their market roll-out.
Additionally, despite his recent tenure at the Volvo Group, Ekman also brings significant expertise in modularisation from his earlier years at Scania. This is useful for utilising specific components across different vehicle models, a key aspect of modular design systems.
Achim Puchert, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, commented on the incoming Head of Development: “We are excited to welcome Marcus Ekman to Mercedes‑Benz Trucks. His leadership in transformation and ability to connect technology, product strategy, and execution will be essential to Daimler Truck’s journey towards becoming the best truck and bus company in the world.“
Regarding Ekman’s predecessor, Rainer Müller-Finkeldei, Puchert added: “I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to Rainer for his exceptional contributions over more than three decades for our company. He has been instrumental in driving transformation towards carbon-neutral transport, digitalization, and greater vehicle and system connectivity across the globe. For his future, I wish Rainer all the best.”
