With the VLE, Mercedes-Benz Vans is setting out to redefine the electric van. The model combines an 800-volt architecture, the ability to add up to 350 kilometres of range in 15 minutes, rear-wheel steering and a cabin designed to offer passenger-car levels of comfort. In this interview, chief engineer Benjamin Kaehler explains why he believes the electric platform itself is becoming a commodity – and where the new VLE is designed to differentiate itself from the competition.
