Panasonic plans to halve cobalt portion in batteries
The Japanese company plans to change up their battery manufacturing recipe within the next two-to-three years to use only half the current cobalt components. Head of the Panasonic passenger car division, Yoshio Ito, stated there are already working prototypes, but a complex evaluation process will take place before serial production.
Tesla Model 3 found profitable
German engineers “dissected” the Tesla Model 3 and its battery and found that costs for materials and suppliers come down to no more than 18,000 dollars. They also analysed the battery chemistry in detail, coming to exact and similar results, thus concluding Tesla could be making real money from the Model 3.

The Democratic Republic of Congo thinks about more than doubling the tax on cobalt supply, reports “Bloomberg” referring to a draft law that the country’s parlamentarians are currently discussing about.
